Late weekend wrap up

This is late. I am sorry. Shit life happens. Like fires, and massive amounts of spaghetti sauce. That is another post entirely.

Friday started off with…well, chaos. I had a twin mattress to bring upstairs, a room to arrange and the entire apartment to vacuum. So, it wasn’t perfect, sue me. And I was vacuuming in Charity’s room and, everything stopped. Except the light. The fan with the light stopped, but the light stayed on. Hmmm.

I checked the fuse box, no problem there. Did I mention a heat wave? That was going on too, so no air movement and remember folks, heat goes up. So, I took a break Lucky for a walk. Then, cooled off after a meltdown call to Brian. I had to get Charity’s room ready. So, I trudged on.

I got the mattress up the stairs and suddenly, the fan started working again. WTF. Seriously? It has something to do with the outlet on that side of the room. If you have any ideas on how to fix it, please clue me in. This will be an epic post, so, here are some pictures instead.

The first is a view from the top of the stairs and the second is from the opposite corner. The only new items are: a second mattress (the first is under it), a fitted sheet, pillowcases, fan, and the teal drawer thing next to the bed. Lucky was moving while I was taking the panoramic pictures, he doesn’t really have 2 tails.

Charity didn’t make it down here until 11ish ay night. So there really was no fun to be had that night.

Saturday, I was up at 9am. My mother in law said they would grab breakfast and be right here. Yea, they got a flat tire and the day didn’t start until 1pm.

They insisted on going to Ikea, by they I mean my mother in law and her friend. So, we drove the hour to Frisco and got there.

If you have never been to Ikea, if you ever get a chance to go, do it! I love going but it is an hour away and its always packed when we go. Saturday was no exception. Usually, we go through one or the other, either the first floor or the showroom second floor. They opted for the first floor. Brian has me on a tight budget, so I had no spending money, but my mother in law bought me 2 lamps, 2 glass bottles, salad servers, and an ice cream scoop. It was my birthday present. I saw tons of things I haven’t seen in person and have tons of ideas for our home. I just need to hold off and see if I still feel that way about things after we move, some time.

We were famished by the time we were done at Ikea, so we went in search of someplace to eat. The older ladies picked. Olive Garden. Really? I love Olive Garden and haven’t had it in over a year, but really? We could’ve had In N Out, Fuzzy’s, or any other place they can’t have at home. Oh well.

Tasty drink, too bad the waiter couldn’t keep my water glass full!!

We headed back to Arlington after that and went to Wal-Mart, the one right across from Cowboys Stadium. I wanted to show them the “cool” Wal-Mart in Arlington. Then, we headed home, everyone was pooped from the long day at Ikea.

Sunday, we woke up late. Brian had a long week last week and we were all just tired. We met them up at the Harley Davidson store in Grand Prairie (I have no pics, sorry). Brian got a few shirts and a hat for his late birthday presents. Then, it was off to the Outlet mall behind it. More shopping….ugh.

Then, we took them to Spring Creek BBQ for some real Texas BBQ. Yum. The complimentary ice cream (only on Sundays) was just icing on the cake. We went to Foundry to find some clothes for my father in law. They were amazed that you could get a beer while you shopped, for free.

Yup, we were those people. Brian, Charity and I all had waters. We are in Texas, what do you expect?

After Foundry, my mother in law hit the road. They didn’t make it back home until 1:30am, I think.

There was grocery shopping, rest, and dinner on the agenda for the rest of the day for us. I saved us $40!! Woot!! (Again, another post, another day.)

Did you have a good weekend? Ours was packed full of randomness and shopping. I hate shopping.

xoxo jes

My Little Clothing Solution

Well, I have been slowly applying for jobs. There was just one problem with my wardrobe: not enough clothes for summer that aren’t tank tops. I wear t-shirts and tank tops all the time. I have some nice dressier tanks too. I just have a problem, I have a giant cupcake skull on my upper arm. I can cover it with a short sleeve shirt, but I don’t have any that are dressy. Ok, I have 2.

I was in Fort Worth the other day and I looked at one store. Nothing that I liked that would cover the tattoo. So, I went to target. Yup! They have stuff! Instead of buying a shirt that I can wear once, I bought a lightweight, short sleeve cardigan. Now I can wear it over my tanks and if I am applying for jobs, I can wear it with any tank top and look nice. Yay!

I do have other wraps and such, they are long sleeve though and it’s pretty warm here. The one I bought is pictured below.

Quick! Write this down!

We have to document it!

Ok, it isn’t that rare. B made supper at home 2 nights in a row! Last night and tonight. Tacos and brats! Love the man!

It was the first time he has made dinner for all of us since we moved here. Yesterday, he went all out. We were going to have taco salad, but we got to El Rancho to take advantage of some great deals, a guy gave us a freshly made package of tortillas, still hot. Only $1.99! So, along with that, we got some tomatoes (romas for $.98 for 2 pounds!), Jalapeños, limes, lettuce and some of their beef for tacos. We picked up other things too, but the allure of fresh tortillas and homemade salsa was too good for us not to have tacos. B also got a couple avocados later to make homemade guacamole. My favorite.

Really, we wound up going to 3 stores after making our list and checking ads for the best deals and only spent $100 for 2 weeks worth of groceries for 3 people. Now, we didn’t get cereal or milk or eggs, but those can easily be picked up (the Aldis here has milk for $1.99). So still not much more than our initial budget. The eggs will allow me to make cookies and other snacks (we have mixes on hand).

I only made one thing for our meal yesterday: jicama Slushies made from jicama Kool-Aid found at El Rancho. It was a hit! I love going there to get flavors and things you can’t find anywhere else (Pineapple Kool-Aid? Mango Peach? Yes please!)

Anyone else go to special stores just for amazing items that are otherwise hard to find?

Score! A table!

I finally went to an antique consignment store that I have been driving past almost daily. I would always see bright colored furniture outside and always mean to stop by… And didn’t until Friday night.

Of course, consignment stores are more expensive than some of the places I have been and there is less haggling made. Kinda sucks. Also, at this one, they almost try to shove the tackiest furniture in the place down your throat. This place had more vintage than antiques, so it was more up my alley, but I don’t need a bright royal blue upholstered round bed.

C loved it and found lots of pretty costume jewelry to save up for. I did buy one thing. A table. We had picked out other tables but this guy was the perfect size, right style (love the legs), and for $25, he was coming home with me. He needs a little cleaning up, but the color fits perfectly with our black and white couch. I can put a bright lamp on him and he will be so fab!

Now, some of the black paint has chipped off and unless you took a picture of it, you can’t tell that I went over the chips, dings and scratches with a black sharpie. I had already started the front when I took the pictures so that’s why you can tell.

Any tips for cleaning up the metal feet? Do share! I have been using trusty Google and have some ideas, but if you have some tried and true, let me know!

I hate making plans…

B, C, and I were supposed to go back to ikea tomorrow, but B got pulled into a catering event. I hate when this happens. I would love to say this doesn’t happen often, but it does. Usually it’s with gifts. It’s April now and I still have never gotten anything for valentine’s day from B.

Oh well, I guess I will get over it, eventually.

Thrifting it up!

Well, today, my husband may kill me. I spent $100 on clothes for C and I. Honestly, I would say it could’ve been worse. C got 8 tops and 5 bottoms. 2 of the tops were things she can use to dress up other things. Thankfully, I was able to pick out and take out a lot of the things inappropriate for a girl her age. Unfortunately, I was only able to find 3 tops and 2 bottoms. It’s difficult for me to find things in my style and size.
Here in Texas, there is something I have never seen, it’s not exactly a thrift store, but a plus size consignment shop. They have some beautiful things. I tried on lots of clothes today, just sometimes they fit weird on me.

I think this day was a success, C is set for the summer, she said so herself and I walked away with some clothes. I usually feel really defeated after a day like today, but I had my little girl by my side. She even told me a big fat no on one cute shirt, it made me look terrible. At least she is giving an honest opinion, even if it’s the Offal Truth.

Also, we got tons of name brands, a Candies top, stuff from matrices, all for a lot cheaper, don’t be afraid of the thrift stores. Just dig a little and wear comfy shoes.
