Tell All Tuesday #2

Today’s confession isn’t nearly as scandalous as last week’s. I mean, come on, I did a brief stint in culinary school, I am the main cook in the house, and I am married to a chef! You would think I would know how or have made hard boiled eggs!! Ok, enough of that.

Today, I am going to confess my secret love of putting together stuff. I realized the other day that usually if something needs hung or furniture is needing to be put together, as long as I can do it all myself, I do. Brian is handy himself, but I do the majority of it. The only thing I can think of that I didn’t put together all by myself is Charity’s bed. It required more than one person.

Another reason why I do most of the hanging: Brian likes to just put things on the wall with no rhyme or reason, just to get it up there! I am not saying I am perfect at it, just better. (Sorry, Brian!!)

Who does most of the handy work at your house? We got a light recently and I couldn’t put it up because we were screwing things into the ceiling. Do you enjoy putting things together? Do tell!

Happy Father’s Day!! 2014

I am lucky. I have the kind of Dad people dream of. Yes, we have had some rough patches, mostly from my teenage years and after, but he has always been there for me.

He and I don’t always see eye to eye, but I know he loves me. He taught me how to be a good parent to my own child. I still catch myself saying things he used to say to me, but I am saying them to my own daughter. He taught me what to look for in a father for my own daughter.

I chose well. Brian has been a great dad to Charity. His dad has taught him well. I am grateful for this. Charity did lack in the dad department for many years, but Brian has more than made up for that. A conversation with my own dad can tell him that if Charity is anything like her mom, she will hit those strong-willed teenage years and what Brian has to look forward to. Poor guy.

I just want to say thank you to my own dad, for teaching me what I needed to look for in a husband and father to my child. Thank you to my husband for being a wonderful dad to our daughter and a wonderful husband. Also, thank you to his dad, my father-in-law for being a great dad to Brian and showing him how to be a great father and being a great father-in-law.

Happy Father’s Day!

Trying to Get Fit!

Hello all!! I am sharing something personal today! Sorry about your luck! Brian may not like me putting it out there, but I am considered “obese”. I turn 30 this year and I really want to start my 30s off healthier than I have lived my 20s. I want to feel better about me.

My teen years, I struggled with anorexia. I was thin and I was completely unhealthy about it. I have struggles with it sometimes still. I don’t want to teach Charity that it is ok. It isn’t. It is very dangerous and can do permanent damage. When I got pregnant with her, I had to force myself to eat. I gained 50 pounds. I was a high risk pregnancy due to my age (18) and my weight (119 pounds at the beginning). I don’t want Charity to have unhealthy ideas about weight.

I spent the majority of my 20s overweight or obese. There was a period of time (22-23) where I was more “normal” but I was back to more of anorexic than a healthy eater. I was active, but not eating enough.

I got pregnant twice in one year. I was 26. Since then, I have been obese. I am only 5’6 and I weigh 215 pounds. My goal is 140 pounds. I started on Monday.

I will be trying to check in weekly with how I did and how it is going for me. I am using two different apps on my iPhone to track this. The Nexercise app and MyFitnessPal. I use them both for two different things. The Nexercise app I use to track how far I walk/how long and use it to punch into my “main” app for achieving my goal: MyFitnessPal (MFP). I use MFP to track my calorie intake and my exercise to burn calories.

So far, I had a lunch that was 1,230 calories! I thought I was going to die. I felt disgusting when I realized how many calories I ate at once. Gross. Don’t ask where we ate, or do and I will tell! I was able to reign it in though. We went grocery shopping and now will be eating at home.

I will leave you with a picture of me after my mile long walk with my workout buddy, Lucky. He is pooped by the way and is snoozing on the couch.

Ask Me Or B!

I haven’t posted this in a long time! However, that doesn’t mean you can’t email me/comment/send a smoke signal if you have a question for me or B! Although, if you send a smoke signal, we might have a hard time knowing it was for us. Sorry. It would be neat though! I need to tell Siri I want to know how to send a smoke signal, you know, in case. Ask away!
